The Cultural focus in this term is the Moon Festival. In Chinese, the Moon Festival is called “zhong qiu jie”. It has been considered as the Asian Thanksgiving Day, which involves family reunions, harvests, and expressions of gratitude. The whole school had an afternoon Cultural Event on 18th Aug. The Language and culture Captain, Harriet has delivered a speech at the assembly about this event. Here is the voices from the students:
"On Monday, we had a Chinese Cultural event. All the grades had lots of fun with creative activities and workshops, like the Chinese Calligraphy workshop, the dragon dance workshop and the shadow puppet workshop. We not only did the workshops but also had fun activities in our classrooms. The preps focused on the Lunar New Year and made a paper chain dragon and Chinese rattle drums. The Grade 1/2s did a lantern collage, Chinese zodiac colouring and also a paper chain dragon for their classroom. The 3/4s’ focus was the Moon Festival. They made lanterns, Chinese dragon collages and Chinese opera masks. They had lots of fun! The 5/6s were focusing on Duan Wu Jie, also known as the Dragon Boat Festival. They made paper zong zi and bookmarks.
That was a great cultural event!"
This term, the following students have Chinese in the Chinese classroom: Year 1/2s, Year 3/4s and Year 5/6s.
